September 19, 2025Meta Unveils Cutting-Edge Meta Smart Glasses with Built-In Display
Menlo Park, California – At Meta’s annual Connect event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the company’s newest innovation: the Meta Smart Glasses, a next-generation wearable device featuring a subtle built-in display within the lens.
The Meta Smart Glasses Display highlights the company’s vision of shifting digital interaction away from phones and into immersive eyewear. Users can now engage with Meta AI, communicate seamlessly, capture and review media, and stay connected through glasses designed with everyday style in mind.
Zuckerberg’s Vision for Meta Smart Glasses
Zuckerberg described the glasses as “the perfect form factor for personal AI intelligence, allowing people to remain in the moment while gaining smarter tools for memory, communication, and enhanced perception.”
The keynote also introduced the refreshed Meta Smart Glasses Gen 2, the sporty Meta Oakley Vanguard, and expanded Quest 3 VR experiences, including Disney+ integration within the Horizon metaverse platform.

Rising Demand for Meta Smart Glasses
Although smart glasses are still an emerging market, adoption is accelerating. Meta’s partner EssilorLuxottica revealed that revenue from Meta Smart Glasses tripled over the past year. Looking forward, the company aims to produce 10 million pairs annually by 2026.
Rocco Basilico, Chief Wearables Officer at EssilorLuxottica, called this launch their most ambitious yet: “The Meta Smart Glasses combine stylish eyewear with AI-powered ‘superpowers’ — instant access to data, audio, and display features that elevate everyday life.”
Features of the Meta Smart Glasses Display
The Display version includes a small projection in the lens, creating the illusion of a screen floating in front of the user’s field of view. This makes it possible to send messages, view notifications, take and watch videos, and engage in video calls directly from the glasses.
Real-time features like live captions, translation, and navigation further enhance usability, offering on-the-go convenience without checking a smartphone. Saved transcripts of conversations through the Meta AI app are particularly useful for professionals and creatives.

Meta Smart Glasses Gen 2 Improvements
The Meta Smart Glasses Gen 2, priced at $379, brings refreshed colors, an extended 8-hour battery (plus 48 hours with the case), and upgraded 3K video recording. Meta also announced upcoming support for slow-motion and hyperlapse videos.
A new “conversation focus” feature uses directional speakers to prioritize voices during in-person talks, ensuring better clarity in noisy environments.
Despite a few live demo hiccups, Zuckerberg highlighted that the adoption curve for Meta Smart Glasses is tracking alongside some of the most iconic tech products ever released.
Meta Oakley Vanguard Sports Glasses: Redefining Outdoor Performance
Priced at $499, the Meta Oakley Vanguard Sports Glasses bring innovation to sportswear technology. With Strava and Garmin integration, they keep your workouts organized, while the Meta AI app provides an all-new “workouts” section with summaries, photos, and videos captured during activities.
These smart glasses feature powerful speakers for clear audio, even during fast-paced rides, and deliver the longest battery life of any Meta glasses—around nine hours. Unlike Meta Ray-Bans, their buttons are placed underneath, ensuring easy use with helmets.
The central 3K camera captures wide-angle footage, while the water- and dust-resistant design makes them ideal for outdoor adventures. Tested by Mark Zuckerberg himself, the Vanguard proves reliable even in challenging conditions like surfing.
